    How a deck wash works

When you contact us for a deck wash, we start the process with a phone call where we carefully go through your specific needs and expectations.

We listen to your wishes regarding the deck's condition and how you want the end result to look, and answer any questions about methods, products and treatments.

Then we compile a detailed quote describing what the work will include and what costs are involved.

Once you have reviewed and approved the quote, we proceed by booking an initial visit for a test wash and measurement, an important part of ensuring you feel confident in our process and get a reliable result.

Step 1 – Test wash and measurement
    Steg 1

    Test wash and measurement

During the scheduled visit, we carry out a free test wash and carefully measure the surface. The test area, approximately 1 square meter, is pre-treated and washed with low pressure and water. This step gives you a clear picture of what to expect and shows how gentle and effective our method is at removing dirt, algae and growth without damaging the material. After measurement, we adjust the quote price based on the deck's measured area. If you're satisfied with the test wash result, you can choose to have us continue cleaning the entire deck right away – or decline free of charge, with no obligations.
    Step 2 – Pre-treatment
    Steg 2

    Pre-treatment

If you choose to proceed with cleaning the entire deck, our operator applies a preparatory algae treatment to the whole deck surface. This foam is biodegradable and carefully selected to be gentle on wood materials. The foam works by softening dirt and growth that has settled into the deck, allowing us to clean the surface effectively with minimal wear. After application, it is given time to soak in and work into the material for a few minutes. This step is crucial for ensuring a deep clean and helps the deck regain its natural color and freshness without damage.
    Step 3 – Cleaning
    Steg 3

    Cleaning

After the pre-treatment has had time to work into the deck and soften dirt and growth, our operator begins the mechanical cleaning. With low pressure and water, we carefully go over the entire deck surface, along the direction of the planks to ensure gentle and thorough cleaning without damaging the wood structure. To create a uniform result, we also clean surrounding details such as railings, stairs and other associated surfaces, at an extra charge if desired. Our goal is to give the entire deck a fresh and clean appearance, free from growth and contaminants.
    Step 4 – Final treatment
    Steg 4

    Final treatment

Once the deck is clean and free from dirt, algae and other growth, we proceed to protect the deck with a final algae treatment. The post-treatment involves applying an algae agent over the entire deck, allowing the foam to penetrate the deck's pores and work over a longer period. This treatment actively helps prevent new algae and growth from attaching to the surface, keeping the deck fresh and easier to maintain.
Step 5 – Sweepit Wood Impregnation
    Steg 5

    Sweepit Wood Impregnation

Once the wood has dried after cleaning, we return to apply a protective impregnation to the deck, extending its lifespan and keeping it in good condition longer. The impregnation binds to the deck surface without forming a surface layer, meaning it doesn't wear off over time and provides durable, long-lasting protection. With its water-repellent effect, rain simply runs off the surface without penetrating, creating an environment where algae and other growth have difficulty establishing themselves.
Step 6 – Cleaning and quality control
    Steg 6

    Cleaning and quality control

After cleaning is complete, we of course make sure your deck, garden, facade and windows are in the same fine condition as when we arrived. We always clean up any dirt and mess that may have occurred during the deck cleaning. We also carry out regular quality checks after each step of the cleaning process. This means we don't proceed with the next step until we can approve the previous one. We maintain a high standard and don't finish until both you and we are satisfied.

Prevent slippery algae with deck washing

When algae attacks wood surfaces, they become both dull and unattractive. If the algae get rain and moisture, the deck can also become slippery. The most important thing is to quickly remove the algae, as their coating retains moisture and increases the risk of the wood starting to rot.

How often you need to wash your deck depends on weather conditions and the material, but we recommend washing it annually, preferably in spring, to prevent buildup of moss, algae and dirt that can make the surface both slippery and worn.

Use ROT deduction for your deck wash

As a Sweepit customer, you can take advantage of the ROT deduction when you book our deck washing. The ROT deduction gives you a 30% tax reduction on labor costs, making it both affordable and easy to maintain your deck.

The deduction falls under the ROT work category and we handle the entire application process for you, so you don't have to worry about administrative hassle. Your invoice clearly shows how much of the amount consists of labor costs. Contact us for more information about the ROT deduction and how it can lower the cost of your deck wash.
